Stéphane du Mesnildot, born in 1969 in the Var, has lived and worked in Paris since 1996. Now a journalist for the Cahiers du cinéma, he has taught History of Italian-style cinema at the Université Paris III. He has written numerous articles on fringe, experimental and “condemned” genres of cinema such as porn. He is the author of works including Jess Franco. Énergies du fantasme (Rouge Profond, 2004), La Mort aux trousses (Cahiers du cinéma, 2008) Fantômes du cinéma japonais (Rouge Profond, 2011) and Le Miroir obscur. Une histoire du cinéma des vampires (Rouge Profond, 2013). During his many trips to Tokyo he has unearthed the wealth of Japanese avant-garde art, in particular those which saw the light in the sixties, whether film or pop music, plastic arts or live shows.
